Why You Should Mat with Bainbridge Alpharag Mats

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Bainbridge Alpharag Artcare mats are the superior choice for matting original artwork and limited edition reproductions.  If you want your artwork to last for generations, Bainbridge Alpharag mats are the ideal matting solution for conservation framing purposes.

When you want to mat your artwork with an archival mat that will protect and preserve your artwork, Bainbridge Alpharag mats are far recommended over paper mats.  Here’s why: Bainbridge Alpharag mats are made from 100% cotton rag, so they are naturally acid and lignin free.  Paper mats, on the other hand, need to be chemically treated in order to become temporarily acid-free – and even then, the protective buffering will eventually wear off.  Bainbridge Alpharag mats will never become acidic, so they are the best option for matting one-of-a-kind works of art.

You will have plenty of choices for customizing your Bainbridge Alpharag mats to most effectively showcase your artwork.  Bainbridge Alpharag mats are available in a variety of colors.  Bainbridge Alpharag mats are solid core, which means that the bevel will match the color of the front of the mat board.  When you order Bainbridge Alphrag mats, you can order them as single, double or triple mats.

Bainbridge Alpharag mats are available in 4 ply or 8 ply. The term “ply” describes the thickness of the mat.  A 4 ply mat is 1/16 of an inch, which is the standard size for mats.  Bainbridge Alpharag 8 ply mats, on the other hand, are double the thickness of the standard 4 ply mats.  The deeper bevel of the Bainbridge Alpharag 8 ply mats creates a stunning and sophisticated presentation for your artwork.

When you buy a lot of Bainbridge Alpharag mats from Documounts, you will save when you buy in bulk.  You only need to buy 4 or more of the same Bainbridge Alpharag mats to begin receiving the bulk discount.  The more you buy, the more you save!

In addition to Bainbridge Alpharag mats, Documounts also sells all of the necessary supplies that you will need to mat, mount, frame and display your artwork!

Different Types of Art Board Mounting Options

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

The art board mounting that you use to mount your art will come into direct contact with your artwork, so it is very important to choose the right art board mounting for your needs.  Documounts carries 3 types of art board mounting: archival, standard and adhesive.  If you’re not sure which would be the ideal type of art board mounting for you to use, read through the following descriptions of each of the art board & mounting boards to decide which one is best for you.

Archival art board mounting is the top choice for mounting important and valuable works of art, such as originals or limited edition prints.  Archival art board mounting options include Bainbridge archival foam core and Bainbridge Artcare 4 ply mount board.

Standard art board mounting is ideal for mounting open edition prints, posters and photography.  This type of art board mounting is not archival.  Standard art board mounting is available as foam core and as chip board.

Adhesive art board mounting is also not archival.  It is a permanent art board mounting solution, so it should only be used for mounting inexpensive prints, posters, and photographs.  You do not need to buy separate adhesives when you buy adhesive mount board.

When you buy art board mounting from Documounts, you can choose nearly any size that you need, and we will expertly cut your art board mounting to fit your specifications.  Plus, when you buy 4 or more of the same custom cut art board mounting, you’ll receive a volume discount.  The discount gets even bigger when you buy even more.  The discount increases at each of the following amounts: 4, 8, 16, 48, 250, 1000 & 5000.

For the archival and standard art board mounting, you will also need to purchase an adhesive for mounting your artwork onto the board.  Documounts sells many different types of adhesives, such as linen mounting tape, mounting corners, conservation paper tape, and spray adhesive, as well as many others.  We also sell mat board, frames, glazing, and all of the framing supplies that you will need to display your artwork!

Buy Archival Mat Board from Documounts

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Ordering archival mat board is easy when you shop at Documounts.  We sell four different types of archival mat board: Bainbridge Alpharag Mat Board, Bainbridge Alphamat Board, Bainbridge Top Mat Board and Crescent Rag Mat.  All of these archival mat boards are museum-quality options for presenting, preserving and protecting your artwork.  When conservation framing is important, then archival mat board is the way to go.

Archival mat board is made from either 100% cotton rag, or alpha cellulose.  Bainbridge Alpharag and Crescent Rag Mat are archival mat boards made from cotton rag.  These mats are naturally acid and lignin free.  Bainbridge Alphamat and Top Mat are archival mat boards made from alpha cellulose.  These mats have been chemically treated to be permanently acid-free.

How do you know which archival mat board to choose?  Keep the following factors in mind when deciding which type of archival mat board will best suit your needs:

  • If you want a colored mat other than the standard white, off-white or black, you will be delighted with the wide variety of colors available for Bainbridge Alphamats.  These archival mat boards are available in over 100 colors, such Riviera Red, Renaissance Gold and Venetian Blue.
  • If you want a black core archival mat that is a bit thicker than the standard 4 ply mats, then Bainbridge Top Mats are the mats for you.  Bainbridge Top Mat is a 6 ply archival mat board that is 1.5 times thicker than the standard 4 ply mat.
  • If you want a solid core archival mat that has a stunningly deep bevel, then the 8 ply Alpharag mats are just what you need.  The 8 ply Alpharag archival mat boards are twice as thick as the standard 4 ply mats. The extra thickness of these archival mat boards creates a more sculptural presentation that beautifully showcases your artwork.

When you buy 4 or more of the same custom cut archival mat board from Documounts, you will receive a discount.  When you buy more than that, the discount gets even deeper!  The more you buy, the more you save.  You can also buy all of the supplies that you’ll need to mat, mount and frame your artwork at Documounts.

Why You Should Use Archival Foam Core to Mount Your Artwork

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Archival foam core is the ideal mounting option for protecting and preserving important or valuable works of art.  You should use archival foam core if you need to mount any of the following:

  • original, one-of-a-kind works of art on paper
  • limited edition reproductions, such as giclees or photographs
  • signed and numbered hand-pulled prints, such as etchings
  • any kind of important paper memorabilia that you want to last for future generations, such as newspaper clippings or certificates

Archival foam core is the museum-quality choice for mounting these types of artworks.  Archival foam core is made with MicroChamber technology that will protect your artwork against chemical damage and environmental pollutants.

Documounts sells Bainbridge archival foam core in two different thicknesses: 1/8” and 3/16”.  The thicker archival foam core is ideal for mounting larger works of art that need more support.  Both thicknesses of foam core are lightweight, yet sturdy.  They will not break or bend.  Both thicknesses of archival foam core are available for the same price!

The 1/8” archival foam core is available in white.  The 3/16” archival foam core is available in both white and black.  Black archival foam core is an excellent option when displaying newspaper clippings, because the print on the reverse side will not show through as much as it would if you mounted the newspaper clipping on white foam core.  Black archival foam core is also a good choice when using a black core mat.

If you need to buy a lot of archival foam core to prepare your artwork for an upcoming art show, then you will enjoy the volume discount you’ll receive when you buy a large quantity of archival foam core from Documounts!  The bulk discount begins when you buy just 4 or more of the same size archival foam core.  The pricing gets lower at the following increments: 4, 8, 16, 48, 250, 1000 & 5000.  This is perfect for artists who sell a lot of artwork at art festivals and art galleries!

In addition to archival foam core, Documounts also sells mats, frames, glazing, and various other supplies that you will need to mat, mount and frame your artwork.

The Benefits of Using Bainbridge Alpharag Artcare

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Bainbridge Alpharag Artcare mats are the museum-quality solution for matting original, one-of-a-kind works of art and limited edition reproductions (such as hand-pulled prints, photographs or giclees).  If conservation framing is a top priority, then Bainbridge Alpharag Artcare mats are the ideal choice to ensure that your artwork will last for generations to come.  Bainbridge Alpharag Artcare mats not only present your artwork in style – they also preserve your artwork by protecting it against chemical deterioration.

Bainbridge Alpharag Artcare mats are made from 100% cotton rag.  Cotton rag is naturally acid and lignin free, which means that they won’t become acidic over time, like pH neutral paper mats will.  For this reason, Bainbridge Alpharag Artcare mats are the archival choice for matting important and/or valuable artwork.

Alpharag Artcare mats are available in a variety of colors.  You can choose to buy Alpharag Artcare mats in 4 ply or 8 ply.  4 ply Alpharag Artcare mats are 1/16” thick, which is the standard thickness for mats.  8 ply Alpharag Artcare mats are 1/8” thick – double the thickness of the standard mats.  The deeper bevel of the 8 ply Alpharag Artcare mats creates a more striking, sculptural presentation of your artwork.

If you need to buy a lot of Alpharag Artcare mats, you will be delighted to know that Documounts offers generous bulk discounts when you buy a large quantity of Alpharag Artcare mats.  The best thing is that you don’t even need to buy a huge amount of Alpharag Artcare mats to qualify for the bulk discount.  You only need to buy 4 of the same custom cut Alpharag Artcare mat to receive a quantity discount.  The more you buy, the deeper the discount becomes!

At Documounts, you can also buy all of the matting, mounting and framing supplies that you will need to display and sell your artwork at art festivals, gallery shows, and studio sales

Is Adhesive Mounting Board the Right Mounting Option for You?

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Documounts sells custom cut adhesive mounting board that is expertly cut to nearly any size that you need.  We offer adhesive mounting board in two thicknesses: 1/16” thick mounting board and 3/16” thick foam core.  These pH neutral adhesive mounting boards are not archival, so they should only be used for mounting inexpensive prints, photos and posters.  If you want to mat original artwork, then you should use archival mounting board and not adhesive mounting board.

How do you know if adhesive mounting board is a good mounting solution for your needs? Adhesive mounting board has its pros and cons.  The convenient thing about mounting your artwork with adhesive mounting board is that you won’t need to buy any adhesives.  The tricky thing about mounting your artwork with adhesive mounting board is that if it’s not done correctly, there might be trapped air bubbles underneath the artwork, resulting in a warped appearance.  Also, since adhesive mounting board is a permanent mounting option, it will be very difficult to remove the artwork from the mounting board without damaging the artwork.  For this reason, you should only use adhesive mounting board if you are certain that you’ll never want to remove it from the adhesive mounting board.

If you need to buy a lot of adhesive mounting board, you will enjoy the bulk savings that you’ll receive when you buy just 4 or more of the same size adhesive mounting board from Documounts.  When you buy more than 4, the discount gets even bigger!  The more you buy, the more you save.  The discount on adhesive mounting board increases at each of the following amounts: 4, 8, 16, 48, 250, 1000 & 5000.

If you need mats, frames, glazing, or framing supplies, you’ll also find a wide selection of these at Documounts!

Frame Your Work behind an Acrylic Glass Sheet

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

An acrylic glass sheet is an excellent glazing option when framing your artwork.  There are many reasons to frame your artwork behind an acrylic glass sheet rather than to frame your art behind real glass.  For one thing, acrylic glass sheets are much lighter than glass, so they are easier to ship and to carry.  Plus, acrylic glass sheets are impact resistant.  Real glass is highly susceptible to shattering and breaking, which can be dangerous to your safety.  It also jeopardizes the safety of your artwork.

Documounts offers 4 types of acrylic glass sheets:

  1. Standard acrylic glass sheets are crystal clear.
  2. Non-glare acrylic glass sheets have a matte finish that minimizes the glare and reflection of the acrylic glass sheets.
  3. UV Resistant acrylic glass sheets protect your artwork against the damage of UV rays by filtering out 98% of UV rays from both natural and artificial light sources.  UV rays damage artwork by causing fading and facilitating the aging process, so UV Resistant acrylic glass sheets are an excellent way to combat this problem.
  4. Non-glare UV Resistant acrylic glass sheets have the benefit of both reducing glare and filtering out 98% of damaging UV rays.  Both types of UV Resistant glazing are ideal for conservation framing.

The acrylic glass sheets that we carry at Documounts are called Acrylite Acrylic, an industry leader in acrylic sheets for framing.  When you buy 12 or more of the same acrylic glass sheets, you will receive a discount.

In addition to acrylic glass sheets, Documounts also sells mats, mount boards, frames, and all of the basic supplies that you’ll need for matting and framing your artwork.  We offer generous volume discounts on many of these items, which is excellent news for artists, photographers and galleries that need to mat and frame a large quantity of artwork!

Mount Your Artwork onto Acid Free Backing

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Mounting your artwork on acid free backing is an important part of conservation framing.  If you want your artwork to last for generations, then using materials such as acid free backing are an essential part of protecting and preserving your artwork.

Documounts carries two types of acid free backing: Bainbridge foam core and Bainbridge Artcare mounting board.  These acid free backing boards are permanently acid free.

Our foam core acid free backing is available in 2 sizes: 1/8” thick and 3/16” thick.  The thicker foam core is ideal for mounting larger works of art.  Both of these sizes of foam core acid free backing are available for the same price.  Foam core is lightweight yet sturdy, so it will not bend, crease, or buckle.  The foam core acid free backing will protect your artwork by neutralizing environmental pollutants.  The 3/16” foam core is available in white, while the 1/8” foam core is available in both white and black. Black foam core is ideal when you are also using a mat that has a black core.

Bainbridge Artcare mounting board is an acid free backing that is made of 100% alpha cellulose.  This museum quality acid free backing is an ideal option when you want to use a paper mount board.

We can expertly custom cut your acid free backing to the exact size that you require.  Best of all – you will save money when you buy a lot of acid free backing.  If you buy 4 or more of the same sized acid free backing, you’ll receive a bulk discount.  When you buy more than that, the price for acid free backing gets even lower!

Documounts also sells all of the supplies that you will need to mount your artwork onto acid free backing.  There are several different archival mounting options, such as conservation paper tape, linen mounting tape, mount strips and mounting corners.  You can also buy mat board, frames, glazing, and other framing supplies at Documounts!

Learn About Bainbridge Alpharag 8 Ply Mats

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

8 ply mats showcase your artwork with sophistication and style.  8 ply mats are 1/8th of an inch thick, which is twice the thickness of standard 4 ply mats.  The deeper bevel of the 8 ply mats creates a stunning presentation that elegantly draws attention to your artwork.

Bainbridge Alpharag 8 ply mats are appealing not just because they are attractive, but also because they are archival.  Bainbridge Alpharag 8 ply mats are the museum-quality option when you want your artwork to be appreciated for generations to come.  These 8 ply mats are made from 100% cotton rag, so they are naturally acid and lignin free.  They don’t need any special chemical treatment to become acid free (like paper mats do), so they will never become acidic.  Bainbridge Alpharag 8 ply mats will protect your artwork against chemical deterioration such as yellowing or staining.  Bainbridge Alpharag 8 ply mats therefore aid in prolonging the life of your artwork.

Alpharag 8 ply mats are available in a variety of whites, off-whites, and blacks.  These mats are solid core, which means that the color of the bevel is the same color as the front of the mat board.

The best thing about buying Alpharag 8 ply mats from Documounts is that you will receive a bulk discount when you order just 4 or more of the same custom cut 8 ply mats.  The discount gets even deeper at each of the following amounts: 4, 8, 16, 48, 250, 1000 and 5000.  Here’s an example: if you buy just one 8×10 Alpharag 8 ply mat, it will cost $12.69.  If you buy eight 8×10 Alpharag 8 ply mats, they cost nearly half that price, at only $6.60 apiece.  If you buy 250 of them, they will only cost $3.48 each!  This is a tremendous savings for artists, photographers and galleries that need to buy a large quantity of 8 ply mats.

If you need archival matting and mounting supplies, Documounts sells those, too!

Why Rag Mat Board is the Museum-Quality Matting Option

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Rag mat board is the top quality choice for matting your most important and valuable works of art.  If you need to mat original, one-of-a-kind works of art, limited edition prints, or priceless paper memorabilia, you should mat with rag mat board.

Rag mat board is made from 100% cotton rag, which is naturally acid and lignin free.  Rag mat board will never become acidic like paper mats will, which is why they are the preferred option for matting artwork that you want to preserve for generations.

Documounts offers two kinds of museum-quality rag mat board: Crescent Ragmat and Bainbridge Alpharag Artcare.

Crescent Ragmat is a 4 ply white core museum rag mat board that is available in 6 different varieties of white.

Bainbridge Alpharag is available in 4 ply and 8 ply.  The term “ply” describes the thickness of the rag mat board.  A 4 ply rag mat board is 1/16”, which an 8 ply rag mat board is 1/8”.  The extra thickness of the 8 ply rag mat board creates a deeper bevel that showcases the artwork in a more stunning, sculptural manner.  An 8 ply rag mat board is an eye-catching alternative for presenting high end artwork.

Bainbridge Alpharag mats are solid core, which means that the color of the bevel is the same color as the face of the rag mat board.  The 4 ply rag mats are available in 29 different colors, while the 8 ply rag mats are available in 13 different colors.

When you buy 4 or more of the same rag mat board, you will receive a bulk discount.  The bulk discount increases the more that you buy.  For instance, if you buy just 1 8×10 Alpharag mat, it will cost you $5.25.  But if you buy 250, each one will only cost you $1.51.  This is perfect for artists and photographers who sell a large quantity of artwork at art fairs and art galleries.

In addition to rag mat board, Documounts sells all of the supplies that you will need to mat, mount, and frame your artwork.
