Protect Your Artwork in a Clear Crystal Bag

Monday, December 14th, 2009

It’s a good idea to protect your matted artwork inside a clear crystal bag before placing it for sale in a rack or bin at an art fair.  The clear crystal bag will protect your matted artwork from dust and from accidental damage, such as smudges or fingerprints.  Plus, matted artwork that is presented for sale inside a clear crystal bag has a more professional appearance.

You can buy high-quality clear crystal bags from Documounts. We sell clear crystal bags manufactured by Clearbags, the world’s leading supplier of crystal clear packaging.  These bags are 40 microns thick, making them strong and durable, yet supple.  You can buy clear crystal bags from Documounts in quantities of 100.  Clear crystal bags are available as both traditional bags and Body Closure bags, both with resealable adhesive strips.

The traditional clear crystal bags have the adhesive strip on the flap, whereas the adhesive strip on the Body Closure (B/C) bags is on the back of the bag.  Both clear crystal bags are top-quality, but the B/C bags are easier to open without tearing the bag.  There is also less chance of the matted artwork sticking to the bag when it is removed.

Traditional clear crystal bags are available in the following sizes.   The bags are a bit bigger than the sizes listed below.  The sizes below describe the size of artwork that can fit into the clear crystal bag.  The first dimension listed is the side of the clear crystal bag that has the opening.  The dimensions are in inches.

Where to Buy a Clear Poly Bag to Protect Your Artwork

Monday, December 14th, 2009

A clear poly bag will protect your matted artwork against dirt, dust, fingerprints, and other types of accidental or environmental damage.  If you plan to have a bin or rack of matted artwork for sale at art fairs, then protecting your matted artwork with a clear poly bag is a wise idea.  The clear poly bag will protect the matted artwork while it is on display and also while it is in transit.  Additionally, matted artwork that is sold inside a clear poly bag projects the impression of quality and professionalism.

Documounts sells clear poly bags in a variety of sizes.  Our clear poly bags can fit artwork as small as 4 x 6 inches and as large as 32 x 40 inches.  These clear poly bags are made by Clearbags, the world’s leading supplier of crystal clear packaging.  They are sturdy and strong at 40 microns thick, yet they are also supple.

You can purchase clear poly bags from Documounts in quantities of 100.  They all have resealable adhesive strips, so they are easy to open and close.  Clear poly bags come in two styles: traditional bags, with the adhesive on the flap of the bag, and Body Closure (B/C) bags, which have the adhesive strip on the back of the bag itself.  The B/C bags are easier to open without worry of the bag tearing, and it is less likely that the artwork will stick to the bag when it is removed (which can happen when you use a traditional clear poly bag).  The only downside to B/C clear poly bags is that they can’t be shortened to a smaller size like traditional clear poly bags can.

In addition to clear poly bags, Documounts also sells mats, mount boards, frame mouldings, glazing, adhesives, and many other supplies that you’ll need to mat, mount and frame your artwork.

Different Kinds of Archival Tape

Monday, December 14th, 2009

Archival tape is a necessary supply when matting and mounting original works of art or limited edition reproductions.  When conservation framing is a priority, then you always want to use archival materials, such as archival mats, archival mount boards, and archival tape.  Non-archival tape will damage your artwork in the long run by causing yellowing and staining, facilitating the aging process of the artwork. Because tape will come into direct contact with your artwork, be sure to use an archival tape.

Documounts sells several different types of archival tape and mounting options:

Filmoplast White Linen Mounting Archival Tape – This is a strong, self-adhesive white cloth archival tape.

ASAP 1” Conservation Paper Tape – This self-adhesive archival paper tape is a strong product yet it has a thinner tape thickness than other tapes.

3L Mounting Corners – These adhesives are excellent when you don’t want adhesives to be in direct contact with your artwork.  Slide your artwork into the mounting corners and apply the sticky side to the mount board.  Available in small, medium and large.

Lineco See-Thru Mounting Strips – If you don’t want adhesives to touch your artwork directly, then use this archival tape mounts.  These mounting strips have a sticky lower half and a clear, adhesive-free upper half.  The artwork rests inside the upper half of the tape while the lower half sticks to the mount board.

The type of archival tape that is best for you will depend on what you are matting and mounting.  If you are matting artwork that has a blank border around all the edges, then you can use an archival tape such as Linen Mounting Archival Tape or Paper Archival Tape.  If you are mounting rare photographs, then you might want to use archival tapes that don’t touch the surface of the photo, such as mounting corners or mounting strips.

In addition to archival tape, Documounts also sells mats, mount boards, frames, glazing, and many other supplies that you’ll need to display your artwork.
