Where to Buy UV Plexiglass for Framing Your Art

Monday, December 14th, 2009

UV Plexiglass is an ideal glazing option when framing photographs or works of art.  UV Plexiglass will protect your artwork against damage from both natural and artificial UV rays by filtering out 98% of the harmful UV rays.  Artwork that is not protected by UV Plexiglass will be susceptible to UV damage such as yellowing, fading, and the premature aging of paper, mat boards, fabric and photographs.

UV Plexiglass is a better glazing solution than real glass, for a number of reasons. To begin with, real glass is far heavier than UV Plexiglass, which makes it much more difficult and costly to ship and transport.  Additionally, real glass is easily prone to breakage and shattering.  Artwork that is framed with real glass instead of UV Plexiglass is highly susceptible to breaking while in transit and even while in storage if something bumps against it.  You will never have this problem if you frame your artwork with UV Plexiglass.  UV Plexiglass is lightweight and sturdy.  It will never shatter or cause damage to your artwork in a way that real glass can.  This also makes it an ideal option when hanging framed artwork in a child’s room.

The type of UV Plexiglass that we sell at Documounts is called Acrylite Acrylic, although some people refer to it as UV Plexiglass.  We have found that Acrylite Acrylic is the best brand of acrylic glazing in the business.  The sheets of UV Plexiglass are 1/8” thick.  You can buy them custom cut from Documounts in any size that you need up to 28” x 36”, which is the maximum size for shipping.  When you buy 12 or more pieces of UV Plexiglass cut to the same size, you’ll receive a volume discount!

Documounts also sells all of the other supplies that you’ll need to frame your artwork, such as mat board, mount boards, frame mouldings, and other matting and framing supplies.

Framing Your Art with UV Acrylic Glazing

Monday, December 14th, 2009

UV acrylic sheets are the best glazing option when you are framing important or valuable artwork that you would like to preserve for generations to come.  When conservation framing is a priority, UV acrylic glazing provides maximum protection for your artwork.

UV rays from both natural and artificial light cause damage to artwork such as fading and yellowing, as well as advancing the aging process of mat boards, paper, fabric and photographs.  UV acrylic protects your artwork by filtering out 98% of these UV rays.

Documounts carries two types of UV acrylic glazing: regular UV acrylic glazing and non-glare UV acrylic glazing.  The difference is that the non-glare UV acrylic has a matte finish which minimizes reflections and reduces glare.  This can make it easier to view and enjoy the artwork.

When it comes to glazing, UV acrylic sheets are superior to glass for a number of reasons.  For one thing, glass is fragile and therefore highly susceptible to breaking.  This makes it dangerous for shipping and transporting.  Plus, if the glass shatters, it may damage the artwork.  On the other hand, UV acrylic sheets are impact resistant.  They will never shatter or break.  Because they are lightweight, they are excellent for shipping and transporting artwork.

The brand of UV acrylic sheets that we carry is called Acrylite Acrylic, which we find to be the leading brand in the business.  These UV acrylic sheets are 1/8” thick.  We can custom cut UV acrylic glazing up to 28” x 36”, which is the maximum size for shipping.  When you buy 12 or more pieces of the same size UV acrylic glazing, you’ll receive a discount!

In addition to UV acrylic, you can also find most of the other supplies you’ll need for framing your artwork at Documounts.  We also carry a select line of mats, mounting boards, frames, and other supplies such as adhesives and hanging wire.
