Crescent Papermat is a Crescent mat board that is pH neutral.  These Crescent mat boards were buffered to make them temporarily acid-free.  This means that they are not archival.  After a number of years, the protective buffering will wear off and the artwork will become vulnerable to chemical deterioration, such as acidic staining, yellowing, and fading.  Therefore, this type of Crescent mat board is suitable for open edition prints and photos, rather than valuable works of art.
