Standard mount board can be used when mounting photos that are part of an open edition.  Standard mount board is not archival, so mounting photos with standard mount board will not protect and preserve your photos the same way that archival mount board will.  Standard mount board includes foam core (1/8” thick and 3/16” thick), as well as 1/16” thick Bainbridge 2UB chip board and 3/32” thick Bainbridge 4UB chip board.

Adhesive mount board should only be used when mounting photos that are inexpensive.  Mounting photos onto adhesive mount board is permanent, so it will be difficult (if not impossible) to remove the photos without damaging the photo.  Mounting photos onto adhesive mount board is also more difficult than mounting photos onto regular mount board, so take that into consideration as well.

• pH neutral photo mats are temporarily acid-free, but over time the protective buffering will wear off, exposing your photos to chemical deterioration such as yellowing, staining and fading.  Use pH neutral photo mats only if you are matting open edition photos.
• Economy photo mats have an acidic core, although the surface is buffered to be temporarily acid free.  Use these photo mats only if you are matting open edition photos.
