Documounts creates and delivers everything you need to mat and frame your own artwork at home. We specialize in custom cut and pre-cut mats, backing materials and frames. Because we sell through our catalog and web based channels exclusively, we are able to keep our prices at wholesale levels but still deliver retail level customer service and support.

When Gary and Betty Ehrlich founded Documounts in 1984 they sought to provide a simple and cost effective service for mounting art and other forms of printed material. They turned their garage into a small production facility and opened for business. Within a year they recognized that many of their customers also desired custom cut matboard to frame their materials. Slowly but surely, word of mouth spread in regards to this small company.

By 1990 the decision was made to relocate the firm to Eugene, Oregon. Within the thriving local art community, Documounts quickly became the favored local supplier. By adding mail order to their warehouse based retail operation, sales grew at a phenomenal rate. With the increase in volume they added mechanized cutting equipment and other product lines including mounting boards, and mouldings. By 1995, the customer base had spread all across the nation and in to Canada.

In 1998 Beards Frame Shops of Portland, OR acquired Documounts. A leader in custom and do-it-yourself framing, Beard's positioned Documounts as the final piece in an end-to-end offering that now included a wholesale division. Two years later, the firm relocated to Portland and expanded its manufacturing operations as a division of Northwest Framing.

Today Documounts still embodies the core tenets upon which it was founded; an obsession to provide the products and services our customers want, the quality they demand, and the outstanding customer service to make the process simple and fast. Documounts is now a national leader in providing custom cut mats, frames, and associated products to both the individual and commercial artist.
