Documounts :: Matting for Giclee Art Prints

In the last five years, inkjet printing technology has truly evolved and current equipment is more affordable and accessible than it has been in the past. Artists can now easily purchase a high quality inkjet printer for their own studio use.

A new method of inkjet printing and the resulting prints are called giclee. Pronounced zhee clay, these images are generated from high resolution digital scans and then printed with archival inks onto paper or canvas.

The printer sprays tiny pixels of ink onto the paper or canvas and these colors mix on the surface of the paper for a rich and long lasting color. The result is a reproduction that is much more like the original work of art than previous in-home print methods.

Hand-in-hand with this printer evolution, paper sizes required for inkjet printers has also changed - so 8.5 x 11” standard sized paper has been replaced by a number of other options.

Because of this, the mat sizes required for giclee prints on digital sized paper also need to keep pace and evolve. We at Documounts are keeping up with these changes and working hard to understand our customers’ digital printing needs. Listed below are paper sizes with the corresponding mat and window dimensions.

If we sell precut mat kits for that same size, we also list them. If you don’t see your size here, your mats would need to be ordered as a custom cut product.
