Plexiglass Pros and Cons

Plexiglass Pros:

Plexiglass is more lightweight than glass, so it is a better choice for some of the following

  • shipping of art
  • Framing larger pieces
  • Placement in children’s spaces and in earthquake zones
  • Good thermal insulator - will not condense moisture as easily as glass so is more
    appropriate for high-humidity areas
  • Not easily broken

 Plexiglass Cons:

  • Scratches easily - must be handled and cleaned carefully
  • Fingerprints show readily
  • Attracts and holds dust because of its inherent static electricity.
  • Should not be used when framing dusty art media like chalk pastels
  • Static can be reduced by using an antistatic plexi cleaner. (link to cleaner)

Glass Pros:

  • Easy to clean
  • generally is more economical

Glass Cons:

  • Heavier – not appropriate for shipping artwork or for large pieces
  • Breakable - can damage artwork or whatever it falls upon if it breaks

Please note that we do not sell glass.
