Plexiglass Pros and Cons
Plexiglass Pros:
Plexiglass is more lightweight than glass, so it is a better choice for some of the following
- shipping of art
- Framing larger pieces
- Placement in children’s spaces and in earthquake zones
- Good thermal insulator - will not condense moisture as easily as glass so is more
appropriate for high-humidity areas - Not easily broken
Plexiglass Cons:
- Scratches easily - must be handled and cleaned carefully
- Fingerprints show readily
- Attracts and holds dust because of its inherent static electricity.
- Should not be used when framing dusty art media like chalk pastels
- Static can be reduced by using an antistatic plexi cleaner. (link to cleaner)
Glass Pros:
- Easy to clean
- generally is more economical
Glass Cons:
- Heavier – not appropriate for shipping artwork or for large pieces
- Breakable - can damage artwork or whatever it falls upon if it breaks
Please note that we do not sell glass.
